The children of today are the foundation of Birmingham’s future.  As a law firm dedicated to supporting and giving back to the Birmingham community, we want to contribute to our children’s education and help to foster their creativity.  This weekend we are excited to be doing just that by participating in the 2019 Epic Read-a-thon, benefiting the Woodlawn Writers Corps.

The Woodlawn Writers Corps consists of almost 700 elementary and middle school students from Oliver Elementary, Avondale Elementary, and Putnam Middle School.  During the school year they meet weekly for creative writing workshops, exploring the important connections that language and writing share with their other studies.  At Gathings Law, we know all about these connections. Our ability to write effectively helps to set us apart as skilled lawyers. As such, we are thrilled to be benefiting the Woodlawn Writers Corps, as they help the young people of Birmingham learn to express themselves in writing.

During the 2019 Epic Read-a-thon, which begins tonight, participants will be reading an array of stories and literature out loud in 10 minute increments for a continuous 24 hours. Tomorrow morning, Gathings Law’s Will Lattimore and Kat Best will take part in the reading of a short story by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
