Lloyd W. Gathings is the founding partner at Gathings Law. He is a 1976 graduate of the Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, in Birmingham, Alabama, where he served as an Executive Editor of the Cumberland Law Review and graduated summa cum laude, first in a class of approximately 230 students. During the last 30 years, Mr. Gathings has been continuously practicing in complex litigation, including business tort litigation, products liability, on-the-job injuries, class action litigation, fraud, and toxic tort cases.
During the last four decades, Mr. Gathings has been lead counsel or co-counsel in many plaintiffs’ cases resulting in judgments, verdicts or settlements in excess of $1 million. He has been voted AV Peer Review Rated, reaching the height of professional excellence. Having practiced law for many years, he is recognized through this rating for the highest levels of skill and integrity.

Mr. Gathings is a member of the Alabama Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Association. He has been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeal for the 11th, 7th, 6th and 5th Circuits; various United States District Courts in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Illinois; the Alabama Supreme Court and the Florida Supreme Court.
He helped form and served as one of the original directors and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alabama Lawyers for Children, an organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse in Alabama; was instrumental in forming the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation, a charitable organization for the purpose of raising funds for various charitable organizations in Alabama, including legal service organizations.
Mr. Gathings is author of articles in The Cumberland Law Review, The Alabama Lawyer, and The Alabama Trial Lawyers Association Journal. He authored the Recent Civil Decisions column in the Birmingham Bar Association Bulletin for a number of years and is currently a contributing author of articles for the Bulletin. He has presented continuing legal education courses for the Alabama School of Law, the Cumberland School of Law, the Birmingham Bar Association, the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association, and other local trial and bar associations.
Mr. Gathings has been featured in Newsweek magazine, Fortune Magazine and on Sky Radio as one of America’s Premier Lawyers. He has been voted by his peers Alabama Super Lawyer Status. He is a lifetime member of Strathmore’s Who’s Who. His honors continue on local and national levels including being recognized as one of Birmingham Biz Magazine’s 2016 Top Lawyers.
