Birmingham personal injury lawyer William Lattimore wins $617,000 verdict for clients injured in car accident
William Lattimore, an attorney with the Birmingham law firm of Gathings Law, secured a $617,000 verdict on behalf of a Blount County client seriously injured in a 2009 car wreck. Felicia Ann Smith of Springville was seriously injured when a car driven by Nicholas Shoebridge of Gadsden crossed the center line and collided with Smiths car. Smiths injuries included a left arm that was fractured in seven places and a broken foot. Smith and her husband Joseph, who was also involved in the car accident, were left with $160,000 in medical bills after the crash. Treating the injuries included undergoing three surgeries and countless hours of therapy and rehabilitation. The couple also lost their car and lost income while recovering from the crash.
Lattimore argued the case, Felicia Ann Smith et al vs. Nicholas Ryan Shoebridge, before Blount County Circuit Court Judge Steven D. King on Monday, August 5. During the trial, Lattimore argued that Shoebridges negligence caused Smiths injuries. Judge King agreed and awarded $617,235.21 in damages to Mrs. Smith. Of that total the judge designated $167,235.21 for medical bills already incurred, $150,000 for future medical bills and the remaining $300,000 for pain and suffering and mental anguish. This was Will Lattimores first trial since being admitted to practice law in the State of Alabama.
